Final Sculpture Piece

My final piece is formed from inspiration from the Blink 182 logo I made. I used the basic design of the eye and repeated it over and over and played around with the structure.

I continued with using paper and turning it into a 3D form exactly how I had with other forms e.g arrows and Blink logo.

I decided to make a fianl piece that wouldn't be to big or something that woud be delicate so I made a sculpture that would be solid and hold up very well.

I think my final piece is a repetitive, evidence of pre-planning and experimentation. My final outcome looks creative and im pleased with how it has finished.

Another Prototype Blink 182 Logo

I decided to get creative and start making the scale bigger and using the Blink 182 logo that is graphically stunning, that is repetitive and something that was going to challenge me, for me I had a image in my head ever since I looked at Bert Simons and said that I wouldnt have thought to puzzle something together. I thought why not challange myself to do something similar.

So I chose the Blink 182 logo which is amazing graphically. I've always admired it maybe because im a little obsessed with Blink 182.

I started with the outer ring and created a slightly smaller one to then fit together by putting square sections onto the rims to make it secure, and to sart the 3D process off.

After that I smoothed the sides down and created boxes on the left hand side of the circle as the inside parts of the arrows, five in total.

The next stage was to create the arrows which was simple enough create one template and produce four others and then secure the backs to them.

The next part of the process was the smaller circle with same techniques as the larger one and to start the measurements for the facial features to fit inside the circle.

I repeated the same process all the way threw to create the 3D effect.

 If I were to do it again i would tweak a few things e.g the size and the outer circle could be more precise. This was maybe because of the time factor and how long I was spending on making it.

 I have challenged myself to create something I perhaps wouldn't have thought too, until I researched Bert Simons he inspired me to do something different. To take this further and use it on my final piece I will take a piece from it and repeat it over and over, it might be the arrows the circles or part of the face.

Repeat Patterns I Tried To Recreate

I tried to recreate the repeat patterns that I decided to look at and use for ideas for a final piece.

This is a sphere made out of paper i was looking at how to construct it into a 3D object and wrapping thin sheets of paper was the easiest way I could think of to produce that.

The second repeat pattern are arrows I looked at how to make a curved arrow instead of a straight one so as to lean them up against each other like in the picture below.

I think these work well even though though they are miniture versions of what I have looked at and I intend to take them into my final piece.

Repetitive patterns 2

A sphere is the most repetitive pattern there is. It is the same all round a perfect shape.

It is perfectly symmetrical.

It has no edges or vertices (corners)

All points on the surface are the same distance from the center.

The most typical way to use paper to make a sphere wud be to keep lapping it over itself until it became round then shave of the imperfections to smooth the serface in other cases to screw up a piece of paper would start a sphere.

You can use all different media to make a sphere like with elastic bands. also in winter snow is used to create snowballs which are generally crafted into a sphere shape.

The sphere is used also for competitive sports e.g Football, Tennis, Golf, Volley Ball.

Of all the shapes, a sphere has the smallest surface area for a volume. Or put another way it can contain the greatest volume for a fixed surface area. The sphere appears in nature whenever a surface wants to be as small as possible. Examples include bubbles and water drops.

Repetitive Patterns 1

An arrow usually consists of a shaft with an arrowhead attached to the front end, with fletchings and a nock at the other. More recently the arrow has been a symbol of direction. It is a very simple design and is used in everyday life for motorists.

I like this graffiti design of a 3D arrow with smaller arrows coming off it. It looks effective with just one simple shape, a simple pattern used in a repetitive way.

The arrow can also be used as a repeat pattern in the picture above it makes a circle and could also be called a cycle.
